Dr. James G. Porterfield, MD, FACC
Dr. James Porterfield came to Memphis from Harvard in 1981 and
opened the
first private electrophysiology practice in America. Prior to that
time, all
electrophysiology procedures were performed in university hospitals
as part
of investigational protocols. In 1989, Dr. Porterfield founded Arrhythmia
Consultants, PC, effectively combining his clinical practice with
an ongoing
commitment to research and education.
An innovator in the fields of cardiology and electrophysiology,
Dr.
Porterfield developed the Porterfield Diagnostic Catheter, a catheter
that
works more efficiently than catheters presently available.
As a Clincal Professor of Medicine at the University of Tennessee
in
Memphis, Dr. Porterfield is also an educator and mentor to students,
interns, residents, and cardiology fellows who train in Memphis
hospitals.
His research contributions appear in the Journal of the American
College of
Cardiology, American Heart Journal, American Journal of Cardiology,
and PACE.
